Diabetes Centre Westminster
The Westminster Diabetes Centre offers care in the community, rather than in hospital, for people with Type 2 diabetes. The team includes diabetes consultants, diabetes nurses, specialist podiatrists, dieticians and a clinical psychologist. The centre also offers retinal (eye) screening and the X-PERT diabetes education programme.
The X-PERT Diabetes Programme is a six-week education programme for people with type 2 diabetes. The programme focuses on self-empowerment and is designed to provide people with the confidence, knowledge and skills necessary to self-manage their diabetes. The programme runs for six weeks. Each session is two and a half hours long and covers topics like What is Diabetes? Weight Management, Carbohydrate Awareness, Complications and includes a Supermarket Tour.
If you have type 2 diabetes, your GP can refer you to the Westminster Diabetes Centre. Your referral will be reviewed by the team at the Centre. You will receive an appointment letter with the time and date or will be requested to phone and arrange an appointment convenient to you.

This is a free six week course for anyone living with a long-term health condition. You learn skills and techniques to help you take control of your life and manage your condition and its treatment. Nutrition and Dietetics
Registered Dieticians convert scientific evidence on nutrition and health into practical advice to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices. They guide and support patients with a range of nutrition-related conditions who want to improve their health. In addition to GP clinics and home visits they run a number of group education programmes and are involved in disease prevention initiatives. Specialty areas include diabetes and ethnic health.
The Dieticians run a range of free programmes for people who want to lose weight, get fit or change their lifestyle:
Fit for Life – a 12-week weight management and exercise programme, and is available to anyone with a Body Mass Index (BMI) above 27.
Drop-in to Weigh-In – weekly adult weight management session for those who live or work in Westminster. No appointment is necessary.
Referral: by GP or health professional, some self referrals for group education programmes are accepted.
